A Link stops updating when Fintoc can no longer log in to the bank with the Link’s stored credentials. This happens when the account holder changes their bank password or when the bank rejects the credentials. The Link also stops updating when Fintoc deletes credentials that a bank requires the account holder to renew periodically. To resume updates, reconnect the Link with the account holder’s current bank credentials. Use any of these signals:
  • Webhook event: Fintoc sends a link.credentials_changed event when the credentials of a Link change or Fintoc deletes them. Reconnect the Link when you receive this event. Subscribe a Webhook Endpoint to receive it as soon as Fintoc sends it.
  • Link status: The Link object has status: "login_required".
  • Refresh status: The Link has refresh_status: "interrupted".
  • Refresh Intent rejected: A Refresh Intent fails with the rejected_refresh_intent error code, or you receive an account.refresh_intent.rejected event. See Errors.

Periodic re-authentication

Some banks require you to reconnect a Link periodically, even if the account holder didn’t change their password. For example, Fintoc deletes the stored credentials for Banco Santander Link objects 6 months after the account holder last entered them. When Fintoc deletes the credentials, it sends a link.credentials_changed event and the Link stops updating until you reconnect it.

Reconnect from the dashboard

Use the dashboard to reconnect a Link for your own bank account.
  1. Go to the dashboard and switch to live mode.
  2. Create a Link with the same country, Link type, and holder type as the original Link. Follow the steps in Create a banking Link from the dashboard.
  3. In the Fintoc Widget, select the same bank and enter the account holder’s current credentials. Use the same bank username as the original Link.
  4. Copy the new link_token from the modal and store it securely.
  5. Replace the previous link_token in your integration with the new one.

Reconnect from the Widget

Use the Widget to let your users reconnect their own bank accounts.
  1. From your backend, create a Link Intent with the same country, holder_type, and product as the original Link.
  2. Open the Widget in your frontend with the Link Intent’s widget_token, as described in the Integration Flow.
  3. Ask your user to select the same bank and log in with the same bank username and their current password.
  4. In the onSuccess callback, send the exchangeToken to your backend.
  5. From your backend, call the exchange endpoint to get the Link with its new link_token.
  6. Replace the previous link_token with the new one wherever you store it.

What changes after reconnecting

When your user reconnects with the same bank username and holder, Fintoc updates the existing Link instead of creating a new one. This table shows what happens to each resource or field: The previous link_token stops working. Use the new link_token for all requests.
If your user logs in with a different bank username or holder, Fintoc creates a new Link with a new id. Update your integration to use the new Link.

Test the integration

Run the Widget flow in test mode with your test API keys and the credentials in Test your integration. Confirm that your backend exchanges the exchangeToken and stores the new link_token.
