Account Number (CLABE)

Fintoc decouples accounts and account numbers. Traditionally, banks linked an account number to a bank account one-to-one. At Fintoc, an account number acts more like a pointer to an account.

Inbound Transfers are tied to the Account Number they’re sent to. By adding metadata to your Account Numbers, you can make reconciliation easier by linking them to your internal business IDs.

🇲🇽 Mexico

In Mexico, you can assign multiple account numbers to a single account. While Fintoc creates a default account number when an account is created, you can create additional account numbers whenever you need.

Fintoc does not ledger at the account number level — only at the account level. So if one account has five account numbers, all balances and transaction activity are aggregated at the account level.

The issuing Institution for payments is Fintoc. We do not use STP or any other payment provider for issuing payments.

🇨🇱 Chile

In Chile, multiple account numbers per account are not supported. Each account has a single account number, which serves as the identifier for that account.

However, you can still assign metadata to account numbers in Chile to support your internal workflows.

Root Account Numbers

When you create an account, Fintoc automatically generates a default account number for it. Since balances are tracked at the account level, this default account number is what you’ll see referenced as the sender in an Outbound Transfer.

Account Number Reassignment

An account number is permanently associated with its account for as long as it exists. You cannot move an account number from one account to another.

Mexico only: if you delete an account number, the underlying CLABE becomes available for reassignment after a cooldown period. Fintoc may recycle that CLABE and assign it to a new account number — potentially in a different account or organization.

Account Number Status

Account numbers have four possible statuses:

StatusReceives TransfersDescription
enabledYesDefault status at creation.
disabledNoDisabled via API or Dashboard. can be re-enabled.
blockedNoBlocked by Fintoc for compliance reasons. cannot be deleted
deletedNoPermanently deleted. Rejects inbound transfers and returned to sender.

Account numbers are enabled by default. You can disable them via API or Dashboard. Fintoc may block an account number for compliance reasons.

Important: Once deleted, a CLABE enters a cooldown period before it can be reassigned to a different organization.

Account Number Limit

By default, you can create up to 1,000,000 Account Numbers per organization.

Deleting an account number frees up quota. Deletion cannot be undone.

If you need to create more than 1,000,000 Account Numbers, contact your sales rep.
